~ The White Keep ~
Located in opposite the Floga stream, the project is overlooking the bay of Parikia, Paros. The White Keep brings together three houses in a composition defined by the contrast between an earthy stone base and a sharply articulated white volume.
The two lower houses are embedded in the steep, rocky terrain, forming a base that reads as an extension of the ground. Their material character establishes continuity with the landscape, anchoring the composition to the slope.
The upper house - the white keep stands emphatically above the landscape and surrounding buildings, commanding a broad field of view across its surroundings. This elevated, lookout-like position gives the project its name.
Its precise white form introduces a formal geometric order against the irregular terrain and the textured stone below. Within its square footprint, rectangular spaces are organized around a cross formed by two intersecting movements: the entrance route into the center of the house and the staircase ascending from the eastern side to the roof terrace. Movement provides the underlying structure of the plan, connecting arrival, occupation and ascent.
A split-level arrangement adapts this measured geometry to the slope. Changes in floor level allow the interior to respond to the terrain while retaining the clarity of the square plan.
The project draws its identity from the relationship between these two architectural conditions: the lower houses establish an earthy continuity with the site, while the keep stands above them as the composition’s distinct white figure.
The plans express two distinct responses to the slope: the lower houses unfold through angled sequences of rooms and detached bedroom volumes, while the upper house gathers its spaces within a compact square. Here, a cross of movement connects the entrance, the interior and the ascent to the roof terrace, giving the white keep its measured spatial order.
